It's easy, cheap and delicious (Supplied) Serve hot with any fresh or dried herbs you like sprinkled over the top and drizzle of olive oil.Drain your pasta (reserve some of the pasta water in case you need to loosen your sauce) and then toss it in the hot pan with the sardine sauce.Toss in the sardines and the tomato paste, mash them into a paste and heat through.Lower the heat and add your garlic, stirring until fragrant.Toss in your diced onion and sautee until translucent and sweet. While the pasta is cooking, heat a frypan to medium, tip in the oil from the sardine tin and gently heat.Cook the pasta as per the packet instructions.1 packet of whatever pasta you have (yes, it can be spaghetti).1 teaspoon crushed garlic (from the fridge or even a ¼ teaspoon garlic salt or granules).1 x tin of sardines in oil (reserve the oil, you'll be using it - or just use some extra olive oil if your fish is in brine).If you don't have sardines, use whatever tinned fish you have. I've had this sauce on everything from rice to cous cous over the years and it works a treat. You can use any pasta, pulse, grain or legume that takes your fancy. But you don't need to use spaghetti for this one if you don't have it. So, let's get started with my favourite pantry pasta: sardine spaghetti. After all, that's where all recipes began. My number one message is that while recipes are great, they are even better when you just treat them as a guide (not a bible) and get confident enough to swap things around and use what you have. You just need confidence, and so I'm here to radiate my confidence in your ability to cook in these challenging times. You don't need fancy ingredients, you don't need a big budget or a big kitchen and you don't need any fancy gadgets. No matter what, these short, easy dinner videos are designed to prove cooking well is just about practice. Plenty of us have to rethink our budgets. Some of us have less time because we're homeschooling. Some of us have more time on our hands because we're isolated at home. I know we're all feeling anxious about cooking more often but with fewer options.
